Industry Tours
Interested in touring one of Whitecourt’s pulp mills? Contact the Visitor Information Booth to book your industry tour. Tours of Millar Western Forest Products and Alberta Newsprint Company are offered free of charge. Tours are offered only during the summer months and are dependent on plant availability and operations.
Riverboating
Have a riverboat and a need for speed? Try your hand in the annual poker rally, or go for a family ride on the Athabasca River and enjoy the scenic landscaping and wildlife.
Fishing and Hunting
If you are a hunter or a fisherman, Whitecourt is the place for you! Whitecourt boasts a variety of big game trophy hunting for elk, moose, mule deer, whitetail deer, bears, coyotes, wolves and even cougars. There is also a variety of the game bird species, including geese and ducks. There is something for every hunter in Whitecourt!
Heritage Park Tours
isit the Tourist Information Booth in the summer and staff will take you on a guided tour of the heritage buildings located in Heritage Park. The Park features the old Blue Ridge Church, Baxter Cabin and a trappers shack. Staff provide guided tours through the heritage buildings and offer insights as to the significance the buildings had in the history and development of our community.
Things to do in Whitecourt
Carson Pegasus Provincial Park
Carson Pegasus Provincial Park is located on Carson Lake, 23 kilometers north of Whitecourt on Highway 32. The park is home to a number of diverse mammals and birds, and is a popular camping and fishing destination for residents and visitors alike.
Eagle River Recreation Area
Located 13 kilometers northwest of Whitecourt on Highway 32, the Eagle River Recreation Area is available for the general public to book from May to October. It is a great venue for events such as family reunions, weddings, anniversaries and staff functions.
Forest Interpretive Centre & Heritage Park
A 7,300 square foot facility, featuring meeting spaces, Whitecourt’s Tourist Information Booth, the office of the Whitecourt & District Chamber of Commerce and a multi-media gallery. The multi-media gallery explores the role of the forest in Whitecourt’s growth and development. All public areas of the facility are wheelchair accessible.
Rotary Park
Features picnic areas, sport fields, playgrounds, an asphalt trail, and a pond that is stocked for family fishing in the summer and cleared for winter skating. Make sure you take the time to walk the trail around the pond and read the Centennial Legacy Historical Story Boards.
Whitecourt Curling Rink
Operated by the Whitecourt Curling Club and offers men’s, women’s, mixed and junior league curling from mid-October to the end of March.
